Applications are invited from aspiring directors who wish to gain valuable governance experience by working alongside the Board of Quality Roading and Services Ltd (QRS) for a period of 12 months.

Wairoa District Council is committed to developing the next generation of governance leaders within our community. As part of this commitment, we are offering a unique opportunity for an emerging director to join the QRS Board as an Intern Director.

This role is designed to provide practical, hands-on exposure to board governance and strategic decision-making while working alongside experienced directors. It offers a rare opportunity to observe and participate in the governance of a successful Council-controlled organisation and gain first-hand insight into the responsibilities, challenges and rewards of board leadership.

About the Opportunity

The successful applicant will attend board meetings, receive board papers, participate in discussions and gain a comprehensive understanding of governance processes and practices. While the Intern Director role is primarily developmental in nature and does not carry voting rights, it provides meaningful exposure to the workings of an active board and the strategic oversight of an important local business.
