Wairoa District Council is seeking a motivated and knowledgeable Planner to join our Planning and Regulatory team. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the sustainable growth and development of our district while helping shape the future of our community through planning policy, resource management, and environmental stewardship.
Working closely with the Group Manager and the wider planning team, you will play a key role in delivering a broad range of planning functions, including resource consent processing, compliance monitoring, district plan review, policy development, and community engagement.
About the Role
As Planner, you will be responsible for:
- Processing resource consent and planning applications in accordance with legislative requirements and statutory timeframes.
- Undertaking site visits, assessments, consultation, and preparing planning reports and recommendations.
- Monitoring resource consent conditions and responding to compliance matters.
- Contributing to the review and development of the District Plan and associated planning policies.
- Building positive relationships with iwi, hapū, community groups, government agencies, consultants, developers, and other stakeholders.
- Supporting community participation in planning processes and environmental initiatives.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- A Bachelor's degree in Resource and Environmental Planning or a related discipline.
- Sound knowledge and practical application of the Resource Management Act and associated planning legislation.
- Strong analytical, research, and report-writing skills.
- The ability to interpret legislation and communicate complex planning matters in a clear and practical way.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and statutory deadlines.
- Strong relationship-building and stakeholder engagement skills.
- An understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles and an appreciation of working alongside tangata whenua.
