Are you passionate about people, place, and creating memorable experiences? Wairoa District Council is looking for a dynamic and community minded leader to oversee our Visitor Information Centre (isite) and the Gaiety Theatre. This is a unique opportunity to combine tourism and community engagement in one rewarding role at the heart of our district.

About the role

You will lead the day-to-day operations of both the isite and Gaiety Theatre, ensuring exceptional customer experiences for locals and visitors alike. You'll manage a small, dedicated team while driving service excellence, operational efficiency, and opportunities for growth across both facilities.

What you'll be doing

  • Lead and manage the Wairoa isite and Gaiety Theatre operations
  • Deliver outstanding customer service and visitor experiences
  • Oversee staffing, rosters, performance, and team development
  • Manage bookings, merchandising, and tourism information services
  • Maintain national isite standards and reporting requirements
  • Build strong relationships with local businesses, tourism operators, and community groups
  • Drive promotion and awareness of Wairoa as a destination
  • Oversee theatre operations, including planning and delivery of events and activities
  • Manage budgets, resources, and day-to-day administration

What you'll bring

  • Demonstrated experience managing or operating a business, service or community facility
  • Proven experience in a customer-facing role
  • Strong leadership or team coordination experience
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • A passion for delivering exceptional customer experiences
  • Sound organisational skills with attention to detail
  • Confidence using systems, databases, and booking platforms
  • Experience in tourism, events, or community development
  • Knowledge of the local area and attractions
