Manager - Projects | Kaiwhakahaere - Ngā Kaupapa
Make your mark where it counts.
Tucked away in one of the most naturally stunning and culturally rich corners of Aotearoa, Wairoa offers more than just a great career move - it offers a lifestyle. As our next Engineering and Projects Manager, you'll lead impactful projects in a region that values community, heritage, and getting things done with purpose.
This is your opportunity to step into a key leadership role within our Assets and Infrastructure team, guiding a talented and motivated group through the full project lifecycle - from scoping and design through to delivery and reporting. You'll be at the heart of building better outcomes for the people of Wairoa, working across roads, utilities, and community infrastructure that truly matter.
What you'll be doing:
- Leading and developing a high-performing project management team with energy, direction and a supportive hand.
- Managing project budgets, timelines, and reporting with a strong focus on quality outcomes and accountability.
- Coordinating everything from resource consents and design to consultant engagement and construction oversight.
- Overseeing contract management in line with NZS3910 and maintaining robust health and safety standards across all works.
- Being a key part of our leadership team, helping to shape how we serve our people and our place.
What we're looking for:
You're technically savvy, pragmatic in your decision-making, and genuinely enjoy getting the best out of your team. You'll bring:
- At least 7 years' experience in project management, ideally with 3+ years focused on roading, utilities, or infrastructure delivery.
- Strong knowledge of project frameworks, contract documentation, and relevant local government legislation.
- A relevant tertiary qualification (engineering, infrastructure, or project management) and a clean, current driver's licence.
Why Wairoa?
Because here, your work really matters. You won't get lost in layers of red tape - your impact is seen and felt by your community every day. Plus, you'll join a close-knit, down-to-earth team that enjoys a laugh, values integrity, and supports each other through the highs and the hurdles.
Relocating? We get it, it's a big decision. But with beaches, bush, and a backyard full of opportunity, Wairoa is one of the best little rural towns in New Zealand. If you're looking for meaningful work with a balanced lifestyle, this is it.
